That’s right. Start eating to lose weight. In order for your metabolism to stay in optimal running condition, you need to eat. Are you skipping a meal here and there and thinking that will cut out some calories so you can lose weight? We will cover just why you need to eat and work out a plan to get you started.
When you don’t eat, as in skipping meals, your body decides that something is wrong and shifts to survival mode in order to conserve its stores. Your metabolism slows down and starts moving the food you do eat into storage, and just so you know, your body stores its fuel as fat. This is just the opposite of what you were trying to do by skipping meals, isn’t it?
Skipping breakfast is probably the worst meal to skip, and yet is the one that is most frequently missed. By the time you wake up in the morning, your body has been without any food for around the past 12 hours, and skipping breakfast is a signal for your body to start conserving fuel now, and you get more fat stores.
You get the opposite effect is you start each day with a healthy breakfast. Your fast is broken and you have signaled your metabolism that all is OK. So your body goes into normal mode and burns calories instead of trying to store them away.
To optimize this effect on your metabolism, try eating smaller meals spaced more often throughout the day instead of the usual big three. Current research shows that eating six smaller meals evenly spaced during the day will cause a boost to your metabolism. And that is exactly what you want.
The key here is smaller meals to keep your metabolism fueled and going strong, but also eat healthy meals. It won’t do you any good to hit McDonalds three times a day with Twinkies and Ho Ho’s in between. Give your body quality fuel to use and you will not only feel better, you will see the results.
Try to avoid simple sugars, white rice, and refined flour of any kind. These are absorbed very quickly by your body and turned into fat stores. Concentrate on complex carbohydrates, quality proteins, and unprocessed fats. These are what your body needs to function, and your metabolism working, just remember it is six smaller meals and to keep them healthy.
If you are a coffee or cola drinker, try switching to green tea. These drinks are known to prevent proper absorption of vitamin C, create acidity, and promote sugar cravings. Soft drinks or soda of any kind should be avoided, especially if it says “diet” anywhere on the label. Green Tea is full of antioxidants and is known to help promote weight loss.
If you are thirsty drink plenty of water, in fact, you should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day. When you are losing weight, your body generates a lot of waste material and some of it is quite toxic. Water will help flush out all that excess waste material, including the toxins. You should also know that if you are dehydrated, you metabolism slows down and that is not what you want when you are trying to lose weight.
