What Travel Photography means to the Professionals
Everyone loves taking travel photos, and every day we see our friends posting their latest shots on their blogs and social networking sites.
Yet travel photography extends well beyond the realm of holiday photos, especially for the professionals. In fact almost all professional photographers, whether they specialise in weddings, photojournalism or landscape photography, often find themselves trekking the world to explore different peoples and cultures.
Here are some of Australia’s top photographers whose professions take them all over the world, and what they have to say about travelling as part of their job.
Urs Buhlman – Advertising Photographer
Urs Buhlman specialises in photographing cars for the biggest automotive companies in the world. He started travelling around Australia in his early years of photography, before beginning his international work. “In 1988 I started shooting ad work, and have eventually specialised in automotive work which took me to many countries whilst assigned on international accounts,” he says. See his automotive work here.
Stephen Dupont – Reportage Photographer
In his constant efforts and passion to tell the stories of marginalised people in some of the most dangerous countries in the world, Stephen Dupont travels to countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Israel and Japan, to name just a few. He says a great tip for travelling overseas is to not underestimate compact digital cameras as fantastic cameras to keep in your pocket for when you need to get that great shot super quickly.
Yervant – Wedding Photographer
Photographer Yervant says he loves his job – and we would too if we got to have this much fun on the job every day!
“I have to admit I love my job!” he says. “Beautiful girls, happy days, all smiles and I can shoot to my heart’s delight.”
Not to mention the opportunity to handle the latest and greatest EOS digital SLR cameras. He also says travel is a huge part of his work, which is an added bonus. “I am very fortunate to be able to see many parts of the world through my assignments and seminars.” See some of his work on his website.
Chris McLennan – Travel Photographer
Ok ok, Chris is a travel photographer, so of course he gets to do quite a bit of travelling. But it’s amazing just how much he’s done in the past 15 years as a travel and wildlife photographer.
“For the past 15 years I have been travelling the globe on numerous commissioned shoots, photographing some of the world’s most amazing people, places, wildlife and cultures in more than 30 different nations.”
Jealous? We are. See what else he’s been up to by visiting the Canon EOS masters website.
Canon is the world’s leading imaging brand that actively inspires with imaginative ideas that enable people to connect, communicate and achieve more than they thought possible through imaging solutions for business and consumers.
