Study by AIIM and Swiss Post Solutions (SPS) Reveals That Nearly 50% of Businesses Say Removing Paper Would Be the Biggest Productivity Improvement

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 02, 2014

As the dialog on the advantages of going digital continues, a study released in November 2014, confirmed a stronger adoption of paper-free, automated technologies among organizations. In fact, nearly 50% of respondents consider the active removal of paper as the biggest single productivity improvement for their businesses. Overall, paper consumption is decreasing in 44% of offices, and the movement toward a digital workplace is becoming a reality.

These figures are cited from a collaborative whitepaper developed by SPS, a leading business process outsourcing and digitization solutions provider, and AIIM, the global community of information professionals. In light of AIIM’s Paper-Free Day in November, the whitepaper brings attention to the economic, environmental, and operational impacts that businesses can achieve by reducing their reliance on paper.

While the 2014 research showed overwhelmingly positive results for those eliminating paper workflows, some organizations and departments are still experiencing a slow uptake in implementing these cost-saving processes. According to the study, legal and finance departments were most resistant to paper-free programs despite widespread acceptance of electronic signatures and automated AP applications.

For organizations that have already implemented digital processes, the research revealed that 60% have seen ROI on their paper-free projects within 12 months, and an impressive 77% within 18 months. Of this segment, users also cited a dramatic savings in physical office space since moving toward electronic document scanning and archiving.

In response to this, SPS North America CEO, Dan Moscatiello, noted, “There is a strong business case for going digital, namely through reducing costs and improving productivity. However, some of the biggest impacts we have seen by serving clients with our digital and automated solutions, are on the speed of response to both internal and external clients, and increased customer retention rates.”
