The Nuts and Bolts of a Cirrhosis Diet: Which Foods To Avoid

Your Cirrhosis diet should include as well as disinclude certain foods in order to help your liver recover. In this article, I will outline what my research has told me about the foods you should not include in your daily diet plans.

Although not infinite, the body does have a limited ability to recover and heal itself. This should empower you by showing that you do have a certain degree of control over your liver’s improvement.

It’s very important to know what to eat as well as what not to eat. This article will begin with the “dont’s” of planning your food and drink intake.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that alcohol is a great big no-no when you have a problem with your liver. Picture yourself carrying your liver to the top of a hill where it will be able to heal. Alcohol is like adding mud to that hill, making the journey longer and more treacherous.

Take a look at any of the packaging of the foods you commonly get at the grocery. Now look at the sodium content of it. Now look at the percentage of your daily intake that food represents.

Planning your Cirrhosis diet should take into account the amount of salt intake- less salt will help keep your liver from working too hard, leaving more energy for healing.

Here’s a great tip for you if you love salt: try some seasonings (look at the labels to check for salt) that add flavor without stressing out your liver. You might actually be surprised at how good these seasonings taste and not miss the salty flavor at all.

Lastly for this article, when planning your meals be sure to take into consideration the fat content of your diet. Without getting into a discussion of good and bad fats, you want to be on top of your total fat intake.

Of course, you want mostly the good fats like Omega 3’s instead of saturated fats. If you like to snack, consider certain nuts as a filling snack that have the good fats you’re after.

Eating the good fats is good for your system overall, not to mention your liver. Be sure to give your body what it needs to heal itself quickly and effectively.

Here’s a Cliff’s Notes version of the top 3 foods to avoid:

Alcohol

Salt

Bad fats

Here’s to your good health!
